The preliminary schedule and registration form for the 8th Oregon Heritage Conference is now available. “Strengthening the Fabric of Oregon’s Heritage” is the theme of this year’s conference which will take place May 3-5 in Pendleton.
There will be workshops on oral history, archives and archives management, and historic cemetery care. There will be presentations and panels on grants and grantwriting, volunteer management, the new Main Street Program, product and marketing, and other heritage topics. The Friday evening banquet will include the presentation of the first Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards by First Lady Mary Oberst.

Come to Moscow for a terrific annual meeting. May is a beautiful month with the gentle Palouse hills covered in varying shades of bright green as winter wheat, lentil and pea crops sprout. This year’s conference will be held in recently remodeled conference facilities at the University of Idaho. This is a conference that you will not want to miss. The early registration deadline is April 14th.

Oregon State Capitol and the Elsinore Theatre, Salem
The day’s activities will include a seminar on learning how to lobby and what is contained in CHAMP, meeting your legislators, participating in exhibits and demonstrations at the Capitol, a parade from the historic Elsinore Theatre to the Capital, a rally on the Capitol steps, and an evening of performances at the Elsinore. A full schedule and more details will come.
CHAMP is a $10.6 million funding package in Governor Ted Kulongoski’s recommended budget for the 2007-09 biennium. It includes cultural reinvestments totaling $10.6 million to fund the Oregon Arts Commission’s Creative Oregon Initiative, the Oregon Historical Society, Oregon Public Broadcasting, the Oregon Film and Video Office, and the new Oregon Main Street Program.
